REMBERANCES
Sarah as remembered by her brother, Thomas.
"Sarah was daughter number three, at least two years younger than Julia. She worked in Eau Claire with Julia in her dressmaking shop before she married Knute Johnson. She lived with Knute's family after her marriage. They lived near the church on the farm that Ormson later bought, a great big house. I use to like to go down there becauase they had many apples and great big hickory nuts. It must have been hard for Sarah there. Knute's mother and grandfather were there. His grandfather was almost blind and died at 103 years while Sarah was still there. Knute's brother drank heavily. He came home once in awhile.

Sarah had Elsmer, Hulda and Enoch (at least) there. I helped them move to the Becker place and lived in a log cabin until they had their house built. Knute's brother, John, helped them build the house. He was a very good man.

They also had Leonard, Hilbert, Ted, Selma and Floyd. All of Sarah's children were two years apart. Knute wasn't very old when he died, probably of lock-jaw. They celebrated their 25th anniversary and lived together a few years after that. Sarah was 89 when she died. She always had a happy disposition. She had a good husband and a good life, the life of any of my sisters."

Knut and Sarah's house was opened to any visitors; once a couple of locals were drunk and they stopped at the farmhouse to stay over for the night. One of them walked out of the second floor window and onto the porch roof, he then asked Knut what happened to the stairs.

Sarah did not like anyone to smoke in the house. She loved to bake and would always have cookies and cakes in the house for everyone to enjoy. When she was not able to bake, her daughter, Selma, would do the baking for her.

Sarah was well remembered for her delicious large sugar cookies and all the other treats she would bake. Her sister, Thora, use to spend several weeks during the summer with Sarah and while there she would sew dresses and aprons for Sarah, Annie and Tina.
