OBITUARY - 1989 Mount Morris - Mr. Enoch J. “Johnny” Johnson, 87, of Mount Morris, died Thursday morning, June 8, 1989, at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Elroy, Wis. He was born July 20, 1901, on the family farm in Juneau County, the son of Knute and Sarah Gullickson Johnson, He married Wanda “Babe” Larson, Sept. 19, 1936, in Milwaukee. She died Dec. 31, 1981. Mr. Johnson attended the Ferndale Grade School and high school in New Lisbon. He graduated from the Wisconsin Business University of La Crosse in May 1924. After graduation, he worked at an insurance agency in Rice Lake until 1926. He then moved to Milwaukee to obtain a position as an accountant and office manager at American Paper Co. In 1936 he was promoted to assistant manager and vice president and held that position until 1956. In 1956, the employees of American Paper purchased the company and Mr. Johnson was promoted to president and general manager. He retired in 1970 and moved to Mount Morris. He was a member of Holden Lutheran Church in Mount Morris. He served six years on the advisory committee of Chippewa Paper Products of Chicago. He served on the board of directors of the National Paper Trade Association of New York for a year. He served as president of the Wisconsin Paper Merchants for two years. He was president of the Butler Lions Club for two years. He served as treasurer of the Mount Morris Lake Association for three years and a director of the Lake Association for two years. He was a member of the Juneau Masonic Lodge for 55 years, and a member of the Wisconsin Scottish Rite Bodies and Tripoli Temple for 22 years. Survivors include two brothers, Hilbert Johnson, of Elroy, and Floyd Johnson, of Wilmington, Ill. Johnny is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at the Holden Lutheran Church, Highway 152, Mount Morris. The Rev. Carmala Aderman will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the church from noon Saturday until the time of services. A memorial has been established. |
