OBITUARY - 1983 Elsmere Gilbert Johnson, 85 of R. 1, Elroy, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 4 at Hess Memorial Hospital in Mauston after a sudden illness. The son of Sarah (Gullickson) and Knute Johnson was born on June 15, 1897, in the Town of Fountain. He attended rural schools in Fountain Township. He was united in marriage to Luella Falk on September 10, 1924 in the Lutheran parsonage. He had been a dairy farmer in Fountain Township all of his life. Johnson was a life-long member of the East Lemonweir Lutheran Church. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Ellsworth and Phyllis Johnson of Hastings, Minnesota; a daughter-in-law, Rosemary Johnson of Wisconsin Dells; one sister, Mrs. Ed (Selma) Martin of Elroy; three brothers, Enoch of Mt. Morris, Hilbert of Elroy and Floyd of Wilmington, Illinois; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Luella in 1973; one son, Kermit of Wisconsin Dells in 1981; two brothers, Ted and Leonard of rural Elroy and one sister, Hulda Kuflickie of New Lisbon. Funeral services were held on Thursday, Jan. 6 at 2:00 p.m. at the East Lemonweir Lutheran Church. Rev. Harvey Frye officiated with burial in the church cemetery. Friends called at the Hare Funeral Home in New Lisbon on Wednesday evening. |
