Karin Billing(s) was born in Sweden. Her mother's maiden name was Augusta Kastberg. She lost her father, Karl Gustaf Billing, a high-ranking retired Army officer, and two young brothers in a tragic home fire. He had rescued the sisters and mother, and returned to the house for the boys.

She and her sister, Wilamena "Villy" Billing(s), later came to the United States to pursue their profession as Swedish Massage therapists. They emigrated to Galveston, Texas, learned English quickly, practiced Swedish Massage, and also lectured at the University of Texas Medical School in Galveston, and the Catholic Hospital in Houston.

t is not known if "Billing" or "Billings" was the original family name in Sweden, or whether Karin and Wilamena (Villy) took the name when they arrived in the USA.

Karin was living in the home of a Galveston teacher, Miss Ann Howard, (who had met the sisters in Sweden and invited them to the U.S.) at the time of the historic 1900 Storm in Galveston.

She later married Dr. B.S. Brown, and they moved to Corsicana and then Kerens. They had no children. When her sister "Villy" Billing(s) Bristol (who had married John Wilson Stump Bristol) was widowed in 1918, she moved to Kerens to the home of her sister Karin, and Karin's husband, Dr. B.S. Brown. Both sisters worked as nurses, and their mother joined them from Sweden in Kerens.

Buried in this Brown family plot are: Mrs. Karin Billings Brown; her husband Dr. B.S. Brown; sister Mrs. Wilamena (Villy) Billings Bristol; brother-in-law John Wilson Stump Bristol; the two sisters' mother, "Mama" Augusta Kastberg Billings, and Dr. Brown's sister, Minnie Brown Allan.
