Margit Kjetilsdotter Rinde

Mary was born Margit Rinde in 1858, near Hjartdal Norway. Her father was Kjetil Torkjelson Rinde (he died in about 1867), and her mother was Ingerid Pettersdotter Kaasa. Mary had a sister; Gunhild, and 2 brothers; Kristain and Torkjel. Gunhild later moved to Smedshuset in Sauland. Kristian died of a throat illness (cancer?) when he was 20 years old. Torkjel was born 2/6/1863 on Rinde in Sauland, he married Gunhild Olsdotter in 1893 and bought Upper Funer in Hartdal in 1897. He lived to be at least 85 years of age.
Her grandfather Petter Brun (Ingrid’s father) was born in Eidsborg and his family was probably from Denmark.
In about 1865 her parents bought Kringlund, which was a part of Midtboen in Grammen, outer Hjartdal.
After age 7, probably due to the death of her father, she lived with her Grandparents, the “Kittlesons”, and she worked as a herd girl in the summertime.
When she was 22 she came to America and lived in Iowa with an Uncle (Torkelson) and earned money working on his farm. Aunt Tilda Adsmond had a family bible of her mothers which has the following inscription: "This bible given to me by Join Baidel of Caudelia, Iowa on the year 1883 - Marget Kittlesen born 1858 17th March on Rinde Savland Oure Tellemaken Noarge." The bible was give to her as a parting gift when she left that farm in Iowa and moved to Minnesota to live with another uncle. There she took a job at the St. James Hotel, met William S. Adsmond in the fall of 1883 while she was living at the hotel and married him the next spring (June 19 1884) (the groom was 50+ the bride was 26).
