William Sweinung Adsmond Family Story: by Jackie Hufschmid

William S. Adsmond was born March 26 in 1834. His original name may have been Aasmund Sweinung Weyumn (Weyumn Homestead in Norway means Holy Ground). He played the flute. He left Norway at age 19 (in 1852 or 1853) to come to America. The Family had lived in Savland near Bergen Norway. We have a letter that WIlliam wrote latter in his life where he says he was born in Sauland Norway.
The family consisted of Father Mother, William, and his two sisters Josaphine (Jane - nickname) and another sister. Williams Mother died when he was 12 (in about 1846) and the other sister died when he was 15.
Williams father came to America a couple of years after William came to America. We have Emmigration Papers dated 1854 that show his name as Adsmund Sweinung (or Svanung) . He was a blacksmith and a writer. One book that he wrote was called “The Husemans Datter.” He was a devout Christian (Luthern?).
William and his father Aasmond settled in Black River Falls (or possibly Chippewa Falls) Wisconsin where his William had found work logging. Aasmond remarried a woman named Maria (b.1825) (Tilda thought her name was Ada and that she was a daughter of a Nobleman in Norway). The family history contends that she had married a commoner (a musician) and had come to America with two sons. The boys were: Ivar Adsmond (b.06/29/1855 d. 09/30/1919), and Henry Wm. Adsmond (b.11-01-1857 m.1891 d.06-04-1934). The 1880 Census indicates that both boys were born in Wisconsin. Henry married Edna Eloise Washburn (d.02-14-1952) in 1891 and had a son William W. Adsmond (b. 1899 m.1923 to Edythe M Hahn). Henry worked as a farmhand in Kansas (1880 census) where he lost his right hand. He and Ivar lived in Colorado for a while (Henry was a county trustee in 1904). Both Henry and Ivar are buried in Caldwell Idaho.
The marriage to Maria (Ada?) didn't work out because she had not been trained to do any menial labor. The 1880 Census shows Maria was working as a housekeeper for the John Olmstead family in Albion, Jackson Wisconsin. It also indicates she is widowed.
Josaphine (Jane) married a man named Fred Johnson probably at Blue Lake Wisconsin (or possibly Chipewa Falls). They later moved to Red Wing Minnesota and subsequently to North Dakota. They had two sons Walter and Willie Johnson and two Daughters Mary and Cara Johnson. Walter later moved to Seattle.

Family tree that Sue Fox thinks could be Williams family:
Svennung Iverson & Joron Svensdsdatter had a boy, Iver Svennungsen, born Dec 11, 1804; a girl, Dagne Svennungsen November 29 1806; a boy, Osmund Svennungsen, born Mar 19, 1809 [Whom I sure hope is Wm S. father];, and another boy, Petter Sven, born August 8, 1811.
