John Wilson Stump Bristol Birth 17 Mar 1876 Galveston, Galveston County, Texas, USA Death 27 Dec 1918 (aged 42) Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, USA Burial Kerens Cemetery Kerens, Navarro County, Texas, USA
John Wilson Stump Bristol was the son of William Henry Bristol, a seaman, and Cassandra Norris Stump, and was born in Galveston, Texas. (The birth year on his marker is in error by a year.)
His father died young, and John dropped out of school at 16 to help support his mother and 3 younger siblings. A month after he married Wilamena ("Villy") Billing(s), in Galveston, they survived Galveston's historic 1900 Storm. They moved to Bonham for a period, and he died in Dallas in the 1918 Flu epidemic. He was buried in Kerens. He and his wife had no children.
He was descended from early Texas settlers, John Wilson Stump of Maryland, and Mary Birdsall Stump, who married and settled in Harris County around 1854.
His widow, Wilamena "Villy" Billings Bristol, then lived in Kerens with her sister, Karin Billings Brown (Mrs. B.S. Brown). The two Billings sisters were from Sweden, and their mother (widowed earlier, when her husband and two young sons were killed in a fire) came to the United States to be with her daughters.
John Wilson Stump Bristol was also survived by his mother and three siblings: William Mason Bristol, Lois (Bristol) Ellender, and Mary Louise (Bristol) Hopkins, all of Galveston.
John Wilson Stump Bristol is buried in this family plot with his wife Mrs. Wilamena "Villy" Billings Bristol; her sister, Karin Billings (Mrs. B.S.) Brown; brother-in-law Dr. B.S. Brown; and his mother-in-law, "Mama" (Augusta Kastberg) Billings.
